School Readiness Programs are designed for families with children ages
0-5 to help their children begin kindergarten ready to learn. Children
need to be healthy, have some literacy skills, be comfortable in a
school environment, and parents need to have some tools to help their
children transition to school successfully.
are three school readiness programs provided by Yuba City Unified
School District: Smart Start, School Readiness, and Sutter County
Smiles. These programs are funded by Sutter County Children and Families Commission and California First Five.
is a summer pre-kindergarten program for children with no preschool who
will begin kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten in August. Your
child must be 5 years old by October 1st to register for kindergarten.
Children who will be 5 years of age between October 2nd and December 2nd may register for Junior Kindergarten at their school of residence.
is an interactive program for parents and children ages 0-5 to attend
together. Little Learners classes are offered at three schools in Sutter
County during the school year: Park Avenue and King Avenue in Yuba
City, and Luther School in Live Oak. Two classes are offered per day and
are FREE to families in Sutter County. Preference is given to families
living within the attendance area of the schools. Parents or caregivers
must attend with children.
Sutter County Smiles is
a Mobile Dental Clinic that provides a full range of dental services
for children. Sutter County children ages 0-5 who have Medi-Cal, Healthy
Families, or no insurance may be seen on the van. Dental services
include exams, cleanings, fillings, crowns, and extractions. The van is
located at various school sites throughout the year. Call the School
