Yuba City Unified School District is a rural school district located approximately 50 miles north of Sacramento that serves nearly 13,000 students in grades K-12. Currently, 12 of 17 YCUSD schools are ASES (After School Education and Safety) grant funded. YCUSD’s ASES Programs are designed to be inclusive of all students attending the regular day program at the 12 ASES funded sites, including students with academic deficits,English Learners, socioeconomically disadvantaged students, and students with disabilities. Approximately 15% of the district’s total K-8 students participate in YCUSD’s ASES Program.
All Programs are aligned with the goals and needs of the sites’ regular day program and comprised of at least one hour of Homework Help, Tutoring or Intervention, an hour of Enrichment, and one hour of organized recreation. All students enrolled in an ASES program receive a nutritious snack and beverage provided by the district’s Nutrition Department. Some examples of Enrichments at YCUSD ASES sites include: Zumba, Reader’s Theatre, KidzScience Programs, Engineering is Elementary, Fine Arts and Voice, Cubelet and Scribbler Robotics, Cooking, Hip-Hop Dance, Cheer, Science club, Kid’s College Computer Club, Soccer, Basketball and many, many more.
